The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has started treating for spongy moth infestations, (formerly known as gypsy moths), in several areas across North Carolina, including Dare and Currituck counties. The treatments were originally scheduled to begin last week, but windy conditions led to a delay. A low-altitude fixed-wing aircraft began dispersing SPLAT Gypsy Moth-Organic Mating Disruption infused with the naturally occurring spongy moth pheromone over the infested areas along the Outer Banks Sunday afternoon and should be completed by the middle of this week.
