This Square Bento Box is filled with the traditional techniques of Yamanaka Lacquerware. It can be used as a lunch box for one person, or to put sushi rolls or Japanese sweets to share with others, or to keep a container for seasonings, etc., and serve it at the table. It is made with a technique of coating black and red lacquer and then polishing a part of it to show the color underneath, which gives a unique texture to the piece. "Nunome" is a lacquering technique in which a cloth is applied to the wood and lacquer is applied on top of the cloth to bring out the pattern. This technique is stronger and more durable than ordinary lacquering.
