Very Large Victorian Cheese keeper Made by K&C'B LATE MAYERS in the Flora pattern North Staffordshire potters. England. C.1875-78. Condition is "Good Used". Good as no chips or cracks from the last 150 years! has some glaze crazing. and crazing to the base plate from use. Cheese Keeper Size 16 cm height 29 cm long 23 cm width The item has been placed next to a regular sized butter dish to show size only. (the butter dish is not included in sale) Nicely decorated with pink and blue floral detail and gilt edge trim. Transfer print and hand painted. This is a very nice well made Victorian dish which with ongoing use would grace any table. Good clear marks to the back and inside lid. Impressed, printed and also painted on. History of the company The introduction of the trade mark A company called Bates, Elliott & Co. (1870-75) first introduced a trade mark of a kneeling potter with the date 1790 underneath. This mark was continued by sucessive companies operating at the Dale Hall pottery works. One of the more successful earlier occupiers of the Dale Hall works was Mayer Bros (c.1843-55) and it was Bates, Walker & Co (1875-78) who added 'Late Mayers' to the mark. Due to size and postage rising foe over seas, once packed the item will be medium sized and heavy hence the courier costs. Will be tracked / insured and packed very well.
