At the center of this approximately 6 futon is a 2.5inch HR convoluted piece of CertiPUR-US® Foam, which provides resiliency and support. This core is wrapped in 5 of naturally luxurious cotton batting that is processed locally to our exacting standards. All of the materials are protected by a polyester outer shell in black. *please note that the photo shows a green cover which is no longer available in this mattress.  Our futons are tufted in order to keep all of the materials in place. If you are looking for a futon with our traditional white cotton canvas shell, please check our other listings. We fill our futons with a set formula but because batches of cotton can vary and we make our futons by hand, they don't always start their life at perfect mattress dimensions.  Usually a futon will begin up to three inches shorter than industry standard.  As the fibers inside compact, they spread outward often causing a gain of 1-3 inches.  This compaction process can take up to a year to accomplish.  The photo to the left shows the interior of the futon mattress.
