The apparatus includes two cups that sit one above the other. The one above has holes in the base for the decoction to drip through, a tamping disc to compact the coffee grounds, and a lid to seal it all in. The base is used to collect the fresh brew.
How to use a filter coffee maker
Add the coffee grounds (a finely ground coffee mix or coffee powder) to the upper chamber of the coffee filter, press it down gently with the disc, and place the two cups one above the other, firmly.
Pour hot water into the chamber above while leaving the disc inside. It will collect over the coffee grounds and slowly seep through to the chamber below.
Put the lid on and let it brew.
Once all the water has dripped through as decoction, you can safely remove the top chamber and place it aside. The decoction is collected in the bottom cup and is ready to use.
Note: Traditionally, a desired amount of decoction will be poured into a tumbler, topped with hot milk and once the sugar is added, poured between the dabra and tumbler to mix, cool and induce a bubbly froth into coffee. You may also use the brew in any other way you like, though it is worth noting that filter coffee decoction is usually very strong when served black.
